PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Allowing yourself to interact in some type of physical activity can allow the body to age better decreasing the chances of chronic illnesses alongside many other health benefits. Different types of exercises will result in its own benefits.
Different Exercises
YOGA
Yoga is a type of exercise consisting of multiple stretching positions. Continuously taking a yoga class enables the body to become much more flexible. Within elderly, it has been shown in a study that yoga is beneficial in improving sleep and quality of life.
WALKING
Walking is considered to be a low-impact and natural exercise. As simple as it is, a little stroll in the park or around the neighborhood is beneficial. In a study, there is little improvement in executive functions such as control, memory, etc. amongst elderly.
STRENGTH TRAINING
As we age, our muscles are much more prone to deteriorate and lose its function, which is known as sarcopenia. With strength training, we are able to reverse the affects--having a positive effect on muscle mass, function, and strength.
DANCING
Zumba is the most common exercise dance class that is open to anyone interested with many different class options. It has been said that taking a single Zumba class improves cardiorespiratory fitness with an average of 360 burned calories.
SWIMMING
Swimming is another type of low-impact exercise. This exercise allows the body to move against the water, which allows the body to perform muscular strength exercises and flexibility.
